NAME GIVING EXAMPLE

One example from the Name Giving Ceremony Book

Friends, we meet here today to take part in a simple, although very important and significant ceremony, (Mother’s Name and Fathers Name) wish to express their joy to you all on the birth of their son/daughter (Baby’s Name). They are pleased that he/she has arrived safely into this world and they want to welcome him/her into their family and also to you their wider family of relatives and friends.

They wish you all to share with them the joy and happiness that they have and to share also the deep sense of responsibility, this welcome to (Baby’s Name) will remind (Mother’s Name and Fathers Name), that from now on a great time of their life will be spent caring for his/her guiding development and nurturing his/her growth as a human being.

Just as (Mother’s Name and Fathers Name) ask you to share with them this joy and happiness, they also ask you to share with them this same responsibility. It is more certain that the more love that (Baby’s Name) receives the more love he/she will be able to give in return. In human history their is no more moving reflection than that of a child’s relationship with it’s parents, (Mother’s Name and Fathers Name) have dedicated this poem to (Baby’s Name).

Reading A PARENTS LOVE

A parents love is something that nobody can explain, it is made of deep devotion, sacrifice and pain.
It is endless and unselfish and enduring come what may, for nothing can destroy it or take it away.
It is patient and forgiving, when all others are forsaking and it never fails or falters, even thou the heart is breaking.
It believes beyond believing, when the world around condemns and it glows with all the beauty of the rarest brightest gem.
It is far beyond defining, it defies all explanation and it still remains a secret, like the mysteries of creation.
A many splendid miracle, man cannot understand and another wondrous evidence of lives tender guiding hand.

PARENTS VOW

We welcome our son/daughter into our family and promise him/her daily support, we will fulfil and respect (Baby’s Name) needs, respect him/her comfort and care for him/her as long as he/she need us, to the best of our ability.

An important tradition on these occasions is the responsibilities of the Guardians or Godparents, they undertake a special and a life long relationship with the child and to assume a more than ordinary responsibility in the event that it may be needed in the future. So I now ask the Guardians or Godparents, (Names), are you willing to accept this responsibility?

GUARDIANS VOWS

We pledge our support to (Mother’s Name and Fathers Name) and freely offer (Baby’s Name), protection and guidance whenever these may be needed.

It is the wish of (Mother’s Name and Fathers Name), who have promised to care for (Baby’s Name) that he/she should bear this name (Baby’s Full Name). (Baby’s Name) may you bear this name proudly through this world. (Touching head)
Seeking wisdom and with love for your fellow beings. (Touching heart)
Carry yourself with dignity as you walk upon this earth. (Touching feet)
May the work of your hands enrich your fellows and bring you honour (Touching hands)

This concludes the ceremony please join with me and congratulate (Mother’s Name and Fathers Name), and (Baby’s Name).

Signing of certificates.
